July 2001 - Galena area window boxes

Every spring, more and more homeowners ask us to design and install annual flower arrangements for their window boxes, hanging baskets & planter boxes. In addition to these containers, our landscape designs often include small pockets for annual planting. Annuals are plants that only live one growing season. Whether they are in plant beds or containers, annuals are a great way to subtly change your landscape each year (or season) without spending a lot of money. Annuals do require some attention. Because they are elevated, planter boxes and hanging baskets tend to dry out quickly. Consequently, it is important to provide water for these plants every few days. Some of the annual combinations seen below are watered with tiny drip irrigation tubes that automatically kick in when it has not rained recently. Most of the plantings seen below are watered by hand. Of course, we provide both hand watering and irrigation installation.
